What is a rugged tablet?
Conventional tablets are appealing thanks to their mobility, but they are not suitable for use in demanding work conditions such as outdoors on construction sites or in markets with cold stores. The so-called rugged tablets - i.e. robust tablets - were specially developed for these high requirements. They are insensitive to external influences such as water, cold, dirt or heat and are therefore the ideal mobile companion for applications in extreme environments. As with conventional tablets, the devices are operated intuitively via a multi-touch display via Android or Windows (Pro or IoT Enterprise, e.g. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise) as common operating systems.
In which areas are rugged tablets used?
Thanks to the variety of software solutions, functions and high mobility, rugged tablets are used in a wide variety of areas. Due to their robustness, they are particularly suitable for work in extreme environments. With protection classes of IP54 and higher as well as military standards (MIL-STD), the robust tablet PCs are protected against dust, water and drop heights of up to 1.8 meters. In addition, high temperature fluctuations are not a problem for the tablet PCs.
